I found something today thanks to the computerbusiness group at yahoo. PHPBMS is a Business Management Softare package written in PHP. It actually does everything that the software I was working on theoretically does, and much much more. This has lifted a large weight off my shoulders as I no longer need to spend all of my free time programming. I can now focus more on the other details of opening the business. I also got a free cash register as my Mom had one that she doesn't need. Of course, when we were talking about it, my brother gave me crap that I had high expectations for thinking I would need one.
I also think I've narrowed down what I'm going to buy for my initial inventory. I'm going to get 2 USB Mice, 2 keyboards (both for people who spill their coffe), 5 USB cables since printers don't come with them, and 2 harddrives (1 desktop, 1 laptop). I think that should get me started, and I can always order more. But that list should be complete enough that I can get through the first week without wishing I had gotten something more. I already have bulk network cable, so I can sell network cable by the foot. I still need to figure out what I'm going to offer for antivirus/anti-spyware software.
I got a phone call from my mother-in-law the other day. She said that there's a lady out there who is adamant on being my first client. This is good, it means I'll have something to do my first day open.
